  • Construction Mathematics

A true text of introductory level mathematics, written specifically for students of building and construction

. Focuses on construction topics not found in the technical level of the mathematics textbooks - essential for student learning how to apply mathematics in building
. Content corresponds to the learning outcomes of CITB / City & Guilds and Edexcel construction courses at Levels 2 and 3. Technically accurate construction images support the introduction of subjects of mathematics, providing a visual representation of the main stages of construction

Taking a point below that of GCSE level, assuming no prior mathematical knowledge, Surinder Virdi and Roy Baker take the reader step by step through the mathematical requirements for Level 2 and 3 of construction courses.
Unlike most basic level math texts, this book focuses exclusively on mathematics as it applies in actual practice of construction. As such, topics specific to the construction industry are presented, as well as essential areas for Level 2 craft NVQs - for example, cost estimates, labor costs, material costs and the establishment of building .
The final chapter exercises cover a wide range of theoretical and practical problems that are found in construction practice, and two projects based on the tasks give students the opportunity to apply knowledge gained. Answers to all exercises are included at the end of the book. A chapter detailing the use of a scientific calculator to calculate construction will be invaluable for students with no previous experience of its use.

Construction Mathematics addresses all mathematical requirements of Level 2 construction NVQs from City & Guilds / CITB and Edexcel courses, including the BTEC First Diploma in Construction. Additional coverage of the basic unit of analysis methods BTEC National Construction, Civil Engineering, Construction and Services courses makes a fundamental review of assistance to students who have no experience in math level 2 before starting their studies BTEC National, or any reader wishing to update their knowledge of mathematics.
